The owner of Hand Therapy Solutions, P.C., Ms. Christine "Christy" A. Moran, MS, PT (Hand Therapist), has been personally serving metro-Richmond, Virginia patients since 1978!  This extensive experience is a valuable part of the evaluation and planning of your customized treatment service.

HOW DO YOU GET HAND THERAPY?


Simply ask your doctor or surgeon for a prescription for an "evaluation and physical therapy" to bring to your first appointment.

You will need to complete the Patient Registration Form that is available by clicking on the icon at the bottom of this web page.  

Note: We currently serve patients from the metro-Richmond, Virginia, USA, area by appointment only.  Personnel are fully licensed MS, PT (Hand Therapist).


A professional evaluation of your condition will be conducted, and a customized treatment plan and schedule will be developed for your specific individualized condition and situation!


WHAT IS HAND THERAPY?


The official definition by the HTCC (Hand Therapy Certification Commission, www.htcc.org) adopted in 2002:


"Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper quarter of the human body.


Hand therapy is a merging of occupational therapy and physical therapy theory and practice that combines comprehensive knowledge of the upper quarter, body function, and activity.


Using specialized skills in assessment and treatment, hand therapists promote the goals of

  • prevention of dysfunction,
  • restoration of function, and/or
  • reversal of the progression of pathology

in order to enhance participation in life situations for individuals with upper quarter disease or injury."


WHAT ARE SOME HAND PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE TREATED BY HAND THERAPY?

Finger injuries of all types, recovery from broken fingers, hand or finger surgery, numbness or tingling, intense pain, loss of motion, nerve damage, carpal tunnel pains, trigger-finger, and the like.


WHAT ARE SOME WRIST PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE TREATED BY HAND THERAPY?

Carpal tunnel pain, nerve damage, intense pain, and the like.


WHAT ARE SOME ELBOW PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE TREATED BY HAND THERAPY?

Sore and painful elbows have many common names like "tennis elbow", but the common difficulty is using the elbow without pain.


WHAT ARE SOME ARM PROBLEMS THAT MAY BE TREATED BY HAND THERAPY?

Recovery from broken arms, limited range of motion, painful positions, numbness, weakness, nerve damage and similar problems.

Recovery from surgery such as breast cancer, i.e. mastectomy, injuries to the chest, limited arm motion due to intense pain, etc.


WHAT ABOUT BROKEN BONES?

When a stock or standard splint to meet a specific need is not available, then Hand Therapy Solutions, P.C., professionals can create a customized splint for the patient. Also, rehabilitation therapy can be started quickly to enhance the recovery process.
